Kamal Hassan’s comment on Oscars for Rahman

Dr M Balamuralikrishna, who has sung a song in the film that has music composed by Jamesvasanthan, got nostalgic on stage. He said, “I’m now reminded of the times when I taught music to Kamal. He was a very obedient student. Now, he has scaled heights — both as an actor and a musician.”

Kamal Haasan said, “Bala sir taught me music when I fractured my leg and was bedridden. His music has kept me going.”

Kamal described Pasanga as a welcome change for the film industry. “It’s been a long time since a movie for children hit the screens. I think the producers and the media should criticise actors whole heartedly. Only then will we know what the audience wants,” he said.

Talking about the hype surrounding Slumdog Millionaire (SM), he said that the victory belonged only to AR Rahman. “SM is not an Indian film,” he said, “The Oscar victory solely belongs to AR Rahman and not to India. Danny Boyle didn’t create a fake set of slums in Mumbai for the film! If people find such a portrayal offensive, then they must take efforts to change our country for the better.”
